Spanish Mountain Gold Mine Project Public Comments Invited and Federal Funding Available

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) is conducting a comprehensive study type of environmental assessment, for the proposed Spanish Mountain Gold Mine Project (the Project) located in British Columbia (B.C.). The Agency invites the public to comment on the project and the conduct of the comprehensive study.

The Agency has prepared a background document to assist the public in identifying environmental issues that should be considered in the environmental assessment. This document and more information on this project are available on the Agency’s website at www.ceaa-acee.gc.ca (registry reference number 11-03-63917). Paper copies of the document are also available by request.

Interested individuals or groups are invited to send their comments by November 21, 2011, in the official language of their choice to:

All comments received will be considered public. This is the first of three public participation periods that will occur during the federal environmental assessment of the project. Future public participation opportunities will be announced at a later date.

$45,000 Available for Public Participation

The Agency is making available $45,000 under its participant funding program to assist individuals and groups participate in the federal environmental assessment process for this project. This funding is intended for activities relating to subsequent public consultations on this project.

The Project and Location

Spanish Mountain Gold Ltd. is proposing the Spanish Mountain Gold Mine Project which is an open pit gold mine located approximately 70 kilometres northeast of Williams Lake, B.C. The Project will process approximately 40,000 tonnes per day of ore over a period of ten years.

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency administers the federal environmental assessment process, which identifies the environmental effects of proposed projects and measures to address those effects, in support of sustainable development.
