(OTTAWA) - The Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health, announced today that Canada’s first Chief Public Health Officer (CPHO), Dr. David Butler-Jones, has been reappointed for a three-year term, effective September 24, 2011.

“Dr. Butler-Jones has shown tremendous leadership in protecting and promoting the health and safety of Canadians,” said Minister Aglukkaq. “I look forward to continuing to work with Dr. Butler-Jones to strengthen Canada’s health system, and I am pleased to announce his reappointment to this key role.”

Dr. Butler-Jones has held many positions in the fields of public health and clinical medicine and is recognized internationally for his contributions to them.
