OTTAWA – June 14, 2011 – The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) is making available $50,000 under its Participant Funding Program to assist groups and individuals to participate in the federal environmental assessment of the proposed Ajax Copper-Gold Mine Project in British Columbia (BC).
To receive funding, successful applicants must participate in the federal environmental assessment of the Project. This funding is intended to support public participation in upcoming steps in the comprehensive study process.
A funding review committee, independent of the federal environmental assessment process, will assess all applications and make a recommendation on the allocation of funds. Applications received by the Agency by July 16, 2011 will be considered.

Information on the proposed Project and the environmental assessment is also available on the Agency’s Web site, in the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry, under reference number 11-03-62225.
KGHM Ajax Mining Inc. is proposing to develop the Ajax Mine Project, a copper-gold mine located immediately south of Kamloops, BC. The project has an expected lifespan of 23 years with a production capacity of up to 60,000 tonnes of mineral ore per day.
The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency administers the federal environmental assessment process, which identifies the potential environmental effects of proposed projects and measures to avoid or mitigate those effects, in support of sustainable development.
