Appointment to Telefilm Canada

OTTAWA, March 9, 2010 - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced the appointment of Carolle Brabant as Executive Director of Telefilm Canada.

"I am pleased to welcome Ms. Brabant to her new position," said Minister Moore. "Telefilm Canada will undoubtedly benefit from her leadership, her strong management experience, and her deep knowledge of Canada's audiovisual industry."

Ms. Brabant has contributed to the growth of Telefilm Canada for 20 years. During this time, she gained broad experience as a member of the organization's senior management. In particular, as head of the finance, information technology, human resources, and administration sectors, she succeeded in helping members of these teams give their best. She was also responsible for the implementation and management of the service agreement between Telefilm Canada and the Canadian Television Fund. From July 2004 to January 2005, she served as Acting Executive Director.

Ms. Brabant currently serves on the board of directors of the Fondation Docteur Philippe-Pinel. A chartered accountant by training, she was a lecturer at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi and previously took part in administering the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants' Uniform Final Examination for chartered accountants.

Ms. Brabant holds a Bachelor of Accounting degree from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi as well as an M.B.A. from the École des hautes études commerciales in Montréal.

As a cultural investor in cinema, television, and new media, Telefilm Canada primarily funds original, diverse, and high-quality productions that reflect Canada's two official languages and cultural diversity. Telefilm Canada also works to ensure the broadest possible dissemination of Canadian productions at home and abroad. It seeks to be a leading promoter of a Canadian audiovisual industry of international calibre. For more information, visit www.telefilm.ca.
