Clerval, Quebec, March 7, 2013 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, announces that the Comité des sports de l’Île Népawa Inc. has been granted funding to upgrade the community centre it operates in the municipality of Clerval.
“By supporting Île Népawa’s community centre renovation project, the Government of Canada is delivering on its commitment to improve the quality of life in our communities,“ said Minister Lebel.
The contribution from Canada Economic Development will be used to carry out various work, including installing a new electrical heating system, re-roofing, laying floors and renovating the kitchen area. Already under way, the project will extend through the fall of 2013.
“Our Government remains focused on four priorities, as outlined by the Prime Minister, that Canadians care most about: their families, the safety of our streets and communities, their pride in being a citizen of this country, and of course, their personal financial security,” concluded Minister Lebel.
This financial assistance, granted in the form of a $24,438 non-repayable contribution, has been awarded through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
The CIIF has a nationwide budget of $150 million over two years, including $31.2 million to be invested in Quebec where the Agency is responsible for its administration. The Fund aims to support the rehabilitation and improvement, including expansion, of existing community infrastructure. The 2nd call for proposals is currently open; interested organizations may submit their proposals until April 30, 2013.
