The Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will travel to Colombia and
Haiti from February 18 to 23, 2008, as part of Canada’s re-engagement in the
Americas.
From February 18 to 20, the Minister will visit Bogotá. There, he will meet with
Colombian government leaders to discuss key bilateral and regional issues, including
the growing trade between the two countries, and Canada’s emphasis on freedom,
democracy, human rights and the rule of law.
Minister Bernier will travel to Haiti from February 20 to 23 to reinforce, at the highest
level, Canada’s continuing leadership in assistance to Haiti. This role is a key
commitment in our re-engagement in the Americas.
Canada is making important contributions toward stabilization and reconstruction efforts
in Haiti. During his visit the Minister will highlight the Government of Canada’s support
