OTTAWA, May 6, 2015 - Today, the Honourable Steven Blaney, Canada’s Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, commended law enforcement agencies following an international investigation that resulted in 41 arrests and the laying of 110 charges relating to child pornography in 17 countries.

“I would like to recognize the role of the York Regional Police, the RCMP, and Canadian and international counterparts in identifying and protecting child victims. Our Government remains committed to the global fight against child pornography and these arrests will help protect Canadians from despicable sexual crimes that prey on children.”

Investigators with the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit - Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Section conducted a large-scale, international joint-forces investigation to identify child victims being sexually exploited online for the purposes of producing child pornography. The York Regional Police collaborated with members of the US Department of Homeland Security, the Ontario Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), INTERPOL, RCMP and various ICE investigators across Canada.
