Ottawa, April 14, 2015 – Today, the Honourable Steven Blaney, Canada's Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, commended the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) following the successful removal of Fernec Domotor from Canada.

“I would like to thank the CBSA and its law enforcement partners for their hard work and determination in disrupting human trafficking activities in Canada and ensuring that Canadians are safe from a despicable crime that preys on the most vulnerable, especially women and children, for sexual exploitation and forced labour.

Our Government is committed to the global fight against human trafficking and is stepping up its efforts to address this heinous crime in Canada and abroad.

Our Government has taken strong action on this file, such as helping to implement mandatory minimum sentences for those convicted of child trafficking, engaging in public awareness, training police officers and providing assistance to foreign victims.”

Ferenc Domotor was the leader of a Hamilton area criminal organization and was convicted of human trafficking charges under the Criminal Code of Canada.  Victims, recruited from Hungary with promises of a better life in Canada, were forced to work illegally, live in deplorable conditions and were intimidated.
