Courageous injured and ill service men and women commemorated
November 1, 2014 – Whitby, ON – Veterans Affairs Canada
On behalf of the Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs, Parm Gill, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs, today attended the official unveiling and grand opening of the Wounded Warriors Canada Park of Reflection, located in Whitby’s Cullen Central Park.
The Park of Reflection is a living tribute to all of Canada’s uniformed service personnel—and their families—who have served internationally or domestically and, as a result of their service, became ill or injured in the line of duty.
This beautiful and tranquil park, which features a labyrinth walking path, a healing garden and sculptural elements, will serve as a place for visitors to pause and reflect on the sacrifices of our nation’s wounded soldiers.
- The Park of Reflection, designed by Whitby resident Daimian Boyne, a Canadian Armed Forces Veteran, represents the return to health and wellness of uniformed service personnel and their families who support them.
- The park is an initiative organized by Wounded Warriors Canada, a Canadian non-profit organization that helps Canadian Armed Forces members who have been injured during their service to Canada.
"I commend Wounded Warriors Canada on its latest initiative in honour of wounded soldiers and their families. The Park of Reflection is an idyllic venue Canadians can gather to reflect and remember the sacrifices made by these brave men and women."The Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs
"It is an honour to be part of the official unveiling and opening of the Wounded Warriors of Canada Park of Reflection. The Park is a fitting tribute that recognizes the courage and bravery of those who became ill or injured in the line of duty."Parm Gill, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs
"We at Wounded Warriors Canada are extremely proud to unveil the Park of Reflection—Canada's first-ever tribute to our nation’s ill and injured uniformed service members and their families, who are living with their injuries sustained as a result of their international or domestic service to Canada."Scott Maxwell, Executive Director, Wounded Warriors Canada
