Ottawa, Ontario, February 27, 2014 – The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, made the following statement today after Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced the apprehensions of Simon Richard Cova and Robert Faci. Each had appeared on the “Wanted by the CBSA” list.

“The ongoing success of the ‘Wanted by the CBSA’ program is a testament to this government’s determination to locate and arrest individuals whose actions pose a threat to the public. We are committed to ensuring Canadians can live, work, and raise their families in safe communities. I commend our law enforcement officers on their continued success in arresting individuals identified on the ‘Wanted by the CBSA’ list.”

Mr. Cova was arrested in Toronto by the Toronto Immigration Task Force, which includes members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and Canada Border Services Agency. He is inadmissible to Canada for serious criminality for being convicted of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Mr. Faci was arrested in Alberta after he turned himself in to an RCMP detachment. He is inadmissible to Canada for serious criminality for being convicted of robbery.

To date, as a result of the Wanted by the CBSA program, Canadians have assisted in locating 54 individuals in Canada, of which 42 have been removed. Additionally, 14 other individuals were located abroad.
