T'Railway Expansion will Continue Trail Development in Conception Bay South

Government of Canada supports work to enhance local tourism infrastructure

Ken McDonald, Member of Parliament for Avalon, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), was in Conception Bay South today to announce $355,320 in support from the Government of Canada for tourism infrastructure.  Through this investment, the Town will develop seven kilometers of walking trails within the community to complete an additional four kilometers of the existing T'Railway within the Town, as well as a three kilometer looped trail to serve as a link between the T'Railway and the gateway business park.

Tourism continues to be an important industry in Newfoundland and Labrador and offers significant opportunities for growth and economic diversification.  Building on key tourism initiatives such as the T’Railway project helps advance the tourism sector and supports business development within the region.

The Government of Canada is focused on working with all levels of government, including municipalities like Conception Bay South, to strengthen community assets like tourism infrastructure.  This project will enhance regional tourism by providing linkages between the East Coast Trail, Manuels River Hibernia Interpretation Centre and the business district within the Town of Conception Bay South.

“The Government of Canada is pleased to support the Town of Conception Bay South as it improves its tourism infrastructure with these enhancements to the T’Railway. Our Government believes that public investment in local tourism initiatives like this one is the best way to spur economic growth, job creation and broad-based prosperity.”

-        Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

“Our Government understands the value and importance of partnerships and collaboration, which help propel growth and build capacity in sectors like tourism. The T’Railway extension is an excellent community-driven initiative that promotes healthy activity and will link to world-class tourism sites as well as and the town’s business district.”

-        Ken McDonald, Member of Parliament, Avalon

“We appreciate the support of the Government of Canada in working with us to complete this trail development project.  As a central piece of our tourism infrastructure, we expect this part of the T’Railway Park to improve our economic and local business development capacity and be enjoyed by residents and tourists for years to come.”
