Kouchibouguac National Park Launches Very First Fat Biking Week
New activity makes the park a year-round biking destination
March 4, 2016 Kouchibouguac National Park, New Brunswick Parks Canada Agency
Kouchibouguac National Park is introducing fun fat bike activities during this year’s March Break (March 5th to 13th) in New Brunswick. The park will have 15 brand new fat bikes available to rent and will be offering Learn-to-Fat Bike workshops during the weekends of March 5-6 and March 12-13 with the International Mountain Bike Association and local retailers.
Fat bikes are a special type of bike that accommodate a much wider tire, often ranging from 3.5 to 5 inches in width. The wider tires allow bikers to ride on all sorts of terrain such as snow and sand, making it a sport that can be practiced year-round. To offer visitors a great and adventurous experience, 16 kilometres of dedicated fat bike winding trails will be groomed throughout the park’s Acadian forest between the Pijeboogwek Waxing Hut and the La Source Shelter. The specialized fat bike trails and the numerous shorter snowshoe trails throughout the park will allow visitors of all skill levels to try out the sport.
Canada’s national parks, national historic sites and marine conservation areas are gateways to nature, adventure and discovery. Kouchibouguac National Park aims to become a must-experience year-round biking destination for visitors with the addition of fat bikes. By encouraging Canadians to visit their national parks and historical places, and providing them with the information and means to enjoy them, Parks Canada allows more Canadians to experience the outdoors and learn about our history.
