Minister Bibeau Statement on International Development Week 2016
February 7, 2016 - Ottawa, Ontario - Global Affairs Canada
The Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, today issued the following statement:
“International Development Week [IDW] is an opportunity for Canadians to learn about the contributions and support provided by individuals, associations, groups and governments at all levels in Canada to improve the lives of people in developing countries.
“The breadth of Canada’s involvement in international development is impressive, as is the commitment and creativity of individuals, communities and organizations.
“During this 26th IDW, I would like to thank all Canadians for their continued generosity and commitment to bringing about real change in the developing world. I would also like to recognize those who risk their lives working in challenging and dangerous situations to help improve the lives of vulnerable people. It is through these efforts that we can see improvements in food security and health outcomes, as well as increased economic opportunities.
“Finally, I would like to encourage everyone to reflect on how each of us can help, in our own unique way, to improve the lives of those in need in developing countries.”
