Minister Joly issues statement condemning vandalism against a learning centre in Richmond Hill

Ottawa, January 29, 2016

I was deeply saddened to hear reports of an act of anti-Semitic and anti-Islamic vandalism to a learning centre in Richmond Hill.

As Minister of Canadian Heritage, I condemn this act of vandalism in the strongest sense.

We are a strong, peaceful, and welcoming country. Our diversity makes us stronger and acts like this have no place in our society.

I urge all Canadians to firmly reject expressions of hatred against Canadians of any faith or cultural background.

I am pleased to hear that the York Regional Police are investigating this appalling act and I urge witnesses or anyone with information to please contact authorities.
