Bonhomme Carnaval on the Plains!

January 26, 2016 – Québec – The National Battlefields Commission                 

The 64th edition of the Québec Winter Carnival will take place from January 29 to February 14, 2016. For the occasion, The National Battlefields Commission invites you to come meet Bonhomme this Sunday, January 31 at 1:45 p.m. He will be with us prior to the departure, from the south entrance of the Plains of Abraham Museum, of the popular guided tour — The Snowshoer. Take advantage of this opportunity to reserve your guided tour and obtain a $2 discount upon the presentation of your Carnaval effigy. Tour the park wearing traditional-style snowshoes in the company of Amédée, or his wife, and learn about the winter history of the Plains. Are you interested in ending the day in warm premises? Drop by the Plains of Abraham Museum and visit the new Battles | 1759-1760 exhibition. It will creatively immerse you in the battles of the Plains of Abraham and Sainte-Foy.

  • The Snowshoer

Participate in a guided tour steeped in the past. History lovers and winter recreationalists, put on your caps, mittens, arrow-head sashes and traditional-style snowshoes and accompany a 20th century snowshoer on a tour on the Plains. An original recreational outing reminiscent of the “belle époque” of winter sports and leisure activities of yesteryear. Snowshoes, arrow-head sashes, lanterns and hot chocolate included!

In English: February 13. In French: January 31; February 6, 7, 20, 21, 27 and March 5. Saturdays, 7 p.m. and Sundays, 2 p.m.

$17 / ages 10 to 64, $15 / ages 65 and older. $2 discount upon presentation of the Carnaval Effigy.

Also available on Valentine’s Day: The snowshoer went a courtin’. A guided tour including stories about the courtship rituals of the golden age of snowshoeing and the fascinating — and sometimes racy— stories of our ancestors. Equipment and hot chocolate included.

February 14, 7 p.m. $17 / ages 10 to 64, $15 / ages 65 and older. $2 discount upon presentation of the Carnaval Effigy.

  • Battles | 1759-1760 Exhibition

“Battles” is a unique, authentic exhibition, an incredible immersive projection where history and technology intertwine marvellously. Original and sometimes poignant accounts of French, British, Canadian and Amerindian protagonists allow you to relive the battles of the Plains of Abraham and Saint-Foy through the written accounts of 17 witnesses from the era. Four different perspectives merge into a touching and vibrant collective overview of a dramatic episode of our history.

The permanent exhibition is open year round at a cost of $30/family; $4/ages 5 to 12; $10/ ages 13 to 17 and or 65 and over; $12/ages 18 to 64 (free for children ages 4 and under).
