Assault of an inmate at Drummond Institution
January 11, 2016 – Laval, Quebec – Correctional Service Canada
On January 2, 2016, at about 4:50 p.m., an inmate was victim of an assault at Drummond Institution, a medium security federal institution. The injured inmate was immediately evaluated by staff members and transported to an outside hospital to receive treatment.
The Sûreté du Québec and the institution are presently investigating the incident.
No staff members or other inmates were injured during this incident. The victim is currently under observation and his injuries are not life threatening.The assailant has been identified and the appropriate actions have been taken.
The Warden has ordered a lockdown and an exceptional search of the entire institution. Normal operations have been resumed on January 5th, 2016 by the end of the afternoon.
The safety and security of institutions, their staff and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
The Correctional Service of Canada will investigate the circumstances of this incident and continue to work with the police.
