Death of an inmate at Atlantic Institution

January 5, 2016 – Renous, New Brunswick – Correctional Service Canada

On January 2, 2016, Anthony Goodfellow, an inmate at Atlantic Institution, was found unresponsive in his cell.

Staff members immediately began performing CPR and emergency services were called. The offender was taken to an outside hospital and he was pronounced dead on January 3, at approximately 3:35 p.m.

At the time of his death, Mr. Goodfellow, 36 years old, had been serving a sentence of 8 years, and 4 months since November 16, 2007 for Assault of a Peace Officer, Attempt Theft Under, Robbery, Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle, Possession Property Obtained by Crime, Unlawfully at Large, Possess/Use/Falsify Credit Card, Possession of Schedule I Substances, Attempt Indictable Offence, Break & Enter and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police has been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
