Escape and Recapture of inmate from Stony Mountain Institution

December 31, 2015 – Winnipeg, Manitoba – Correctional Service Canada

On December 31, 2015, at approximately 2:58 p.m., Stony Mountain Institution, a multi-level security federal institution, was notified that Jacques LARENTE escaped during a medical escorted temporary absence in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) immediately contacted the Winnipeg City Police and a warrant for his arrest was issued.

At approximately 4:40 p.m., Jacques LARENTE was apprehended by police. CSC and Stony Mountain Institution are conducting a joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
