Statement from Health Canada on the Thalidomide Survivors Contribution Program
November 30, 2015 - Ottawa, ON - Health Canada
OTTAWA – Health Canada has selected Crawford & Company (Canada) Inc. to act as the independent third-party administrator of the Thalidomide Survivors Contribution Program. Through the Program announced earlier this year, the Government of Canada will provide support for the ongoing and extraordinary health needs of eligible Canadian thalidomide survivors.
Crawford & Company Inc. will be responsible for managing these ongoing support payments and the Extraordinary Medical Assistance Fund.
Additionally, Crawford & Company Inc. will be responsible for assessing the eligibility of all new claimants under the Program. Individuals who identify themselves as thalidomide survivors, and who have not already come forward to Health Canada, have until May 31, 2016, to contact Crawford and submit their application.
Survivors who received support under the 1991 Extraordinary Assistance Plan will automatically receive support under the current program and do not need to reapply. They will begin receiving ongoing support payments in early 2016.
