Minister McKenna concludes her first international meeting at Pre-COP in Paris

November 10, 2015 – Gatineau, Quebec – Environment and Climate Change Canada

The Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, returned to Ottawa following her participation at the Pre-COP ministerial meeting in Paris, France.

Ministers from more than 80 countries came together to build momentum and advance the negotiations towards concluding an ambitious global climate change agreement at COP21.

Minister McKenna met with several of her counterparts including incoming French COP President Laurent Fabius, and others from Mexico, Australia, Luxembourg, the United States, and the European Commission.

  • The Pre-COP ministerial meeting was hosted by Laurent Fabius, French Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, and Manuel Pulgar Vidal, Peruvian Minister of State for the Environment and current President of the COP.
  • COP21 will be held from November 30 to December 11, 2015, in Paris, France.
  • The Paris Climate Conference is the culmination of four years of negotiations towards a new global climate agreement.
  • As the host of COP21, France has also launched a strong action agenda, which brings both state and non-state actors to accelerate cooperative actions to tackle climate change.
