Good morning ladies and gentlemen.
Thank you, Minister Goodyear, for the warm introduction and for joining us here in Toronto this morning.
As your Member of Parliament, I am always happy to witness and celebrate our Government's support for innovative businesses in the area.
Thanks to the support of our Government, combined with the innovative efforts of our skilled and resourceful businesses and producers, this region will continue to develop and bring to market quality, Canadian-made products.
Our Government is dedicated to supporting businesses like FGF BRANDS INC. that have demonstrated a strong ability to deliver value and volume to meet the requirements of its clients – which include some major retailers in North America.
Under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, since 2006, we have worked to create a low-tax environment for business investment in order to flourish.
We have expanded access to foreign markets. We have supported innovation and world-class research, helped to train a highly skilled workforce, and created business opportunities.
Economic Action Plan 2015 will continue to implement strategies for prudent fiscal management, including a low-tax plan for jobs, growth and security.
The greater Toronto region is a strong contributor to the food and beverage industry and is home to a number of important manufacturing facilities.
Our Government recognizes the need to support companies like FGF BRANDS products, so they can continue to be leaders in their industry, develop new products and stretch their manufacturing capabilities.
FGF BRANDS INC. is a company that has made a firm commitment to service excellence. Your company places a high priority on efficient production and the advancement of quality products, which is why today; FGF BRANDS INC. is considered one of the largest producers of baked muffins, naan, pizza crust, sweet loaves and flatbreads in North America.
This family-owned business has, in its more than 10 years in operation, worked very hard to remain competitive and produce quality baked goods products for a growing client base.
The Ajmera family has more than 30 years of experience in the industry. They have a clear sense of what their clients value and a talent for creating fine food products.
This company is now hoping to increase its level of productivity and expand into further markets. FGF BRANDS INC. needs to take the necessary steps to strengthen its manufacturing capabilities to remain competitive in the retail and foods service markets.
Our Government recognizes the value of strengthening and supporting the growth of innovative companies, like FGF BRANDS.
We believe in providing the right tools to make their business grow and prosper.
With this in mind, I'm pleased to be here to deliver some great news.
To support innovation and the expansion of the baked goods industry and the food service industry, the Harper Government, through FedDev Ontario, is providing FGF BRANDS INC. with almost $1.37 million.
FGF BRANDS INC. is a company that has made it a commitment to develop quality baked goods that appeal to a large customer base.
This project will allow FGF BRANDS INC. to produce with greater efficiency, and at a greater capacity to meet the growing consumer demands in the food retail and food service sectors.
Furthermore, this investment will allow the company to enhance its reach in global markets, most notably in the United States – where there is already a strong consumer demand for their products.
This project will help position FGF BRANDS INC. to join the ranks of North America's 100 biggest commercial bakeries
I am sure everyone will be excited to learn that this project expects to create up to 105 full-time equivalent jobs by 2017.
Congratulations to FGF BRANDS INC. I wish all of those involved every success.
