January 14, 2015 – Temagami, Ontario – Industry Canada/FedNor

MP Jay Aspin (Nipissing—Timiskaming),on behalf of the Honourable Greg Rickford, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources and Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario (FedNor), announced today an investment that will help support jobs, business and economic growth in the Temagami region.

FedNor funding of $392,200 will enable the Corporation of the Municipality of Temagami to undertake two initiatives in support of tourism and business growth. Of the total, the Corporation of the Municipality of Temagami will use $320,200 to complete waterfront renovations such as dock expansions at various locations within the Municipality to facilitate tourists' accessibility.

The remaining $ 72,000 will be used to restore and transform the Temagami Train Station into a year-round, multi-use facility that will accommodate new businesses. Specifically, the funding will be used to upgrade the structure's windows, doors, insulation, plumbing, and electrical and heating systems.

  • The funding announced today is provided through FedNor's Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that promote sustainable community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
  • Since 2006, through FedNor's Northern Ontario Development Program, the Harper Government has invested $329 million in support of more than 1,600 projects. These investments have supported more than 21,500 jobs throughout Northern Ontario.
