Government of Canada supports renovations to Stratford Perth Museum

November 4, 2014 – Stratford, Ontario – Department of Canadian Heritage

The Government of Canada is providing $34,000 through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund to support renovations at the Stratford Perth Museum. With this support, the museum will make its exhibition space more efficient and accessible.

Gary Schellenberger, Member of Parliament (Perth–Wellington), made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

Quick Facts

  • The Stratford Perth Museum’s permanent collection contains 20,000 artifacts dating from the early 1800s to the present day.
  • The history of this diverse community is told through collections of quilts and clothing; CN railway equipment; medical and military objects; Depression glass; agricultural, industrial and architectural artifacts; and much more.

“Our Government is proud to give Canadians greater access to the arts by supporting organizations that bring local history to life, enrich the cultural life of the community and boost its economy.”

—The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages

“I am pleased to see the Government of Canada’s support for the Stratford Perth Museum, a vibrant and vital cultural institution that helps us to celebrate our community’s history and heritage.”

Gary Schellenberger Member of Parliament (Perth–Wellington)

“This funding is quite wonderful and certainly timely. It allows our Museum to move our business forward in any number of ways: from an enlarged exhibit space to enhanced security and improved patron flow through building a wider, accessible and better demarcated entrance. We’re certainly very grateful for these funds. The citizens of our great county will be the central benefactors.”

—David Stones, Museum President and Board Chair, Stratford Perth Museum Association
