Minister Bibeau launches Canada's international assistance review and consultations
May 18, 2016 - Copenhagen, Denmark - Global Affairs Canada
The Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, today launched a public review and consultations to renew Canada’s international assistance policy and funding framework. The aim is to rethink Canada’s policies and programs in order to better respond to the challenges and opportunities of the new global context.
These consultations will inform the process of determining how best Canada can refocus its international assistance so that it helps the poorest and most vulnerable people and supports fragile states. It will also help shape Canada’s approach to implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. A special emphasis will be placed on women and girls and consulting on how to apply a feminist lens throughout all of Canada’s international assistance activities.
All Canadians and partners are invited to participate in this review from May to July 2016. The consultations will assist in making Canada’s approach, investments and partnerships more innovative and effective.
Minister Bibeau made the announcement while attending the Women Deliver Conference, in Denmark, where she championed the health and rights of women and girls.
“We are consulting with Canadians and partners to ensure that our actions help empower the most vulnerable and contribute to finding lasting solutions to the world’s most pressing development challenges. As we are demonstrating at Women Deliver, Canada has a long tradition of engaging internationally. We are a global people committed to a shared humanity.”
