OTTAWA – Vice-Admiral Bruce Donaldson today assumed the role of the Vice Chief of the Defence Staff (VCDS) from Vice-Admiral Denis Rouleau, who will become the Canadian military representative to NATO in Brussels. Prior to his appointment as the VCDS, Vice-Admiral Donaldson served as Commander Canada Command.

"Vice-Admiral Donaldson will help ensure continued excellence in the Canadian Forces and the Department of National Defence," stated Minister MacKay. "I offer my best wishes to Vice-Admiral Donaldson in carrying out his new functions as the VCDS, and thank Vice-Admiral Rouleau for the critical leadership he demonstrated in that role."

"Vice-Admiral Donaldson brings extensive operational and leadership experience to this position," said Chief of the Defence Staff General Walt Natynczyk. "I am confident he will lead the VCDS organization in maintaining the highest level of professional standards and ethics."

"I am proud to have this opportunity to take on this leadership role within the Canadian Forces," said Vice-Admiral Donaldson. "In my previous capacity as Commander Canada Command, I gained a solid perspective on the issues facing the CF today. I look forward to leading the VCDS team in meeting departmental objectives and contributing to the success of CF missions."
