Archived - Minister Raitt Announces Reappointment to the Canada Industrial Relations Board
OTTAWA, ONTARIO, June 23, 2010 - The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Minister of Labour, today announced the reappointment of Mr. Richard I. Hornung as part-time Vice-Chairperson of the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB), effective June 27, 2010.
"Mr. Hornung brings a great deal of labour relations experience to the CIRB, " said Minister Raitt. "His education and skills will continue to be a valuable asset to the board. "
Mr. Hornung was first appointed to the CIRB in June 2007. He has extensive experience in labour law, industrial relations and alternate dispute resolution. In addition to practicing and teaching law at the University of Alberta, he taught mediation at Harvard Law School's Program of Instruction for Lawyers. Mr. Hornung has occupied various positions, serving as Vice-Chairperson of the Canada Labour Relations Board, and Chair of the Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board.
The Canada Industrial Relations Board is an independent, representational, quasi-judicial tribunal. Its mandate is to interpret and apply the provisions of Part I of the Canada Labour Code dealing with bargaining rights and unfair labour practices.
