April 7, 2005 OTTAWA – Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Governor General of Canada will attend the Power of Humanity Awards dinner organized by the Ontario Zone of the Canadian Red Cross, on April 11, 2005. The event will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex in Toronto. The Governor General will offer remarks and introduce this year's guest speaker, former President of the Soviet Union and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Mikhail Gorbachev. Following the speeches, the Power of Humanity Award will be presented to Dr. Joseph Wong. The Award was created to celebrate outstanding humanitarian efforts and to honour those who have made a difference in people's lives by meeting a priority need in the community. Proceeds from the Power of Humanity Awards Dinner will support disaster services and other community programs in Ontario such as Meals on Wheels, transportation for seniors, abuse prevention education and services for the homeless.
